CUSTOM INFORMATION

Our clients are often curious about the custom process and whether it’s right for them. At Bon Fire, we like to think of the custom process as a collaborative experience. We will listen to your ideas, talk about material choices, and look over any reference photos you have and then meld those elements together into a design unique to you. Each piece is tailored to you personally and created from an original sketch then meticulously hand fabricated. This process includes alloying the metal, pouring ingots to create stock and forming, cutting and shaping every piece and setting each stone set by hand in our studio. It goes far beyond the standard practice of picking out a stone, setting, and shank from a catalog and having them pieced together. We want to create an heirloom quality piece for you that is truly one of a kind.

Due to the more involved steps that custom work takes we have the following minimums in place:

Custom Engagement Ring- $2500 minimum

Custom Wide Wedding Band- $1000 minimum

Custom Narrow Wedding Band- $800 minimum

Other Various Custom- $500 minimum*

Design Fee- $50-$200 depending on project

*Please note, these minimums do not apply to “special order” pieces which are variations of pieces we have created before (ex. “I like this ring in the case, but can you make it with a blue stone instead?) since small alterations do not require all the steps of the full custom process.

Since the custom process has a “sky’s the limit” list of possibilities it can be quite liberating, but also a little daunting for some people, but we are here to help guide you. We are happy to discuss different setting styles, metal options and the hardness and durability of different stone choices to figure out what would work best for your style.

One large factor with custom is the extended time it takes. We often have a waitlist for custom and once we start there will be the initial consultation, then design, sketch review, sometimes design revision, sourcing of materials, and creation of the piece. Depending on the project, this can mean months of waitlist time, then perhaps 6-8weeks for actual production once we have taken on your project. We realize that not everyone has that much time in which case we recommend looking at one of the many ready made pieces in our store which are still all unique and made by hand and often more economical and can usually be resized with a very short wait time.

All custom design fees, deposits, and final balances are non-refundable and the final piece is non-returnable. We offer a warranty on workmanship, which does not include damage done to a piece and does not include gemstones which are a natural material and can contain inclusions and be prone to different sorts of damage. We will do our best to advise you of different stone properties and what degree of wear they can usually withstand. If you choose a soft stone against our recommendation that is more susceptible to damage you must acknowledge that it is a personal risk and we are not responsible. We recommend yearly cleanings and inspections to see if there is any maintenance required to retain the quality of your piece. Cleaning of pieces originally purchased from us will always be offered as a courtesy, but regular maintenance and repair may incur a fee which can be assessed before any work is performed. We realize sometimes it is hard to find out a partner’s ring size if you want to keep the proposal a surprise therefore we offer one included ring resize, but any subsequent resizings will be charged. Custom pieces must be picked up in a timely manner unless special arrangements are mutually agreed upon. Finished pieces left for more than 1 year will be considered abandoned and the jewelry item and any deposits forfeited. We will refrain from publicly posting photos of custom pieces until we know the recipient has received the item or 3 months have past (whichever comes first) unless special extended times have been agreed to.
